Dance/Movement therapy for Black women living with depression

Dance/Movement therapy for Black women living with depression

tired of trying to manage depression on your own?

You've been living with depression for years and aren't quite sure when you last felt hopeful, energized, and content.

You know what you "should" be doing, but feel too heavy, weighed down, and tired to do anything other than the bare minimum.

And you're "the strong one," so it feels like a personal failure to ask for help.

but pushing through isn't working and YOU CAN't seem to  SHAKE IT OFF OR FIGURE IT OUT ON YOUR OWN.

"Moving Through Depression" is an online psychotherapy group for Black women living with depression.

In this group, you'll

Better understand depression and how it affects your body

Gain an understanding of the ways in which food affects our mood

Increase resources for coping with and preventing prolonged depressive episodes

Learn body-based tools to restore your natural blueprint of health

Be in community with others whose experience may validate your own and support your recovery

I help women living with depression understand what they need to feel vital and well — using food and movement.

And by vital I mean having a sense of what it means to feel well in any given moment.

In my 15+ years of education, research, and supporting more than 1000 women (including myself),  I’ve learned that what we eat, how we move, and how we feel are intimately connected, and simple changes in in food, movement, and thought patterns can lead to significant shifts in your mental health.

With this information and a better understanding of your body, you'll have the tools you need to begin managing your depression in a BODYFUL (whole-bodied) way.

Will this program cure my depression?

Got Questions?

Our reasons for developing depression are varied and deep, so I can't promise that you will feel cured after attending the group.

What you will gain, however, is a perspective and understanding of depression that isn't often talked about. This understanding makes it more possible for you to use the resources provided to tap into your own, natural capacity for vitality and well-being.

Is this therapy?

This group isn’t a clinical treatment group and isn’t billed as therapy.

It is, however, a guided wellness space where we explore depression through movement, emotion, conversation, and supportive community. We focus on how depression shows up in the body, how to soften the pressure to be “the strong one,” and how to build practices that help you feel less alone and better resourced.

Many of the women who have participated in past groups find it complements their individual therapy and becomes a space where they feel seen and supported without having to perform strength.
