Unburdening is an 8-week program for Black women who hold it all together for everyone else, but need space where they can be supported.

You know you need support.
But getting it feels impossible because:

When you try to share how you're really doing, people get uncomfortable.
They need you to be strong, so you go back to being strong.

You're the caregiver. The one everyone leans on.
And there's no space for you to not be okay.

Even when you do share, it feels like no one actually cares.
They say "let me know if you need anything" but don't follow through. You've learned it's easier to just say "fine."

You've been suppressing for so long, you're not even sure what you're feeling anymore. Just tired. Always tired.

You learned to be strong because that's what keeps you safe.

And you learned not to share because people depend on you being okay.

But you're exhausted. And you need a space where you don't have to hold it together.

This 8-week program will help you:

Actually name what you're feeling in a space where you don't have to protect anyone else from it

Understand why you're so exhausted. (HINT: it's not just in your head. It's what happens when you suppress for years)

Practice sharing how you really are with people who actually want to know and won't make you take care of them

Learn what your body has been trying to tell you—through the tightness, the numbness, the constant fatigue

Be with other Black women who are also the caregivers, the strong ones and  understand what it toll it takes

Stop performing strength and just be

Why Embodied Work?

You've probably tried talk therapy. Maybe it helped you understand why you're exhausted.
But understanding it doesn't always make it stop, because high-functioning depression doesn't just impact your thoughts. It also affects your body.

Talk therapy names the patterns. Embodied work can help you change and release them.

Unburdening is for you if:

This program is not for you if you are in active crisis, can't commit to eight weeks, or you're looking for quick tips or strategies to power through.

You're a Black woman with high-functioning depression

You're the caregiver, the strong one, the one everyone leans on

You're exhausted from suppressing how you really feel

You've tried talk therapy and it helped, but something's still missing

You're ready to work with your whole body, not just your mind and thoughts

You can commit to showing up 2x/week for 8 weeks

You want to be in community with other Black women

I created Unburdening because I kept seeing the brilliant Black women coming to therapy completely depleted —carrying everyone else's needs while their own feelings had nowhere to go.

For over 20 years, I've been helping Black women understand that their exhaustion isn't personal failure.

I've written two books (Dear Strong Black Woman and Ella and the Whispering Wind), created moving meditations available on all streaming platforms, and worked with hundreds of Black women individually and in groups.

I know what it's like to be the strong one. I know what it costs to hold everyone else together while falling apart inside. I know the weight Black women carry.

And I know the way through isn't trying harder — it's finally having a space where you get to practice softening.

I'd be honored to hold that space for you.

I'm Jennifer Sterling, a Licensed Dance/Movement Psychotherapist.

Hey there!

What if I can't make every session live?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

All sessions are recorded and available within 24 hours. That said, the live community experience is where the deepest work happens, so we encourage you to attend live when possible. If you need to miss a session, you won't fall behind.

If you have to miss more than three sessions, please avoid registering until you are able to attend consistently.

I'm already in therapy. Is this a replacement?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

No, but this complements therapy beautifully. Many participants continue individual therapy while enrolled in Unburdening.

What if I'm not comfortable with movement or "dance"?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

You don't need any dance experience. This isn't about performance or doing it "right."

All practices are gentle, accessible, and guided. You move in ways that feel good to YOUR body. Many participants barely move at all in early sessions, and that's completely ok.

How do I know this will work for me?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

Honest answer: You don't. But you know staying where you are isn't working either.

What I can promise is that if you show up with openness and commitment, you will experience shifts. Every woman who's done this embodied work has left different than they came.

What if I can't afford $997 right now?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

Payment plans (3 or 4 months, no fee) make this more accessible.

I also offer a sliding scale down to $697 for those with limited financial access. Choose the rate that matches your reality — no proof or explanation needed.

I'm nervous about being vulnerable in a group.

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

That's completely valid and makes a lot of sense.

This isn't about forced sharing or performing vulnerability. You're in control of what you share and when. The group is held with deep care and consent, so you can share when you're ready.

What's your refund policy?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

Due to the small cohort size and personalized nature of the program, I don't offer refunds once the program begins.

If you need to withdraw before the first session (with at least 7 days notice), I can offer a refund minus a the book and shipping fee. If you have concerns about committing, let's schedule a call to talk through it.

What if I'm in crisis or need more support than a group can provide?

Got Questions?

Find the answers here.

This program is not for acute crisis.

If you're currently in crisis, experiencing active suicidal thoughts, or need more intensive support, I can help you find appropriate resources.

If you aren't in crisis and just need additional support during the program, you can add 1:1 sessions with me at a reduced rate during the 8 weeks ($150)
